VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME

“There is no power greater than a community discovering what it cares about”  – Margaret J. Wheatley

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Help Line Advocate: Provide crisis intervention, information, referrals, and support to victims of power-based violence after hours. This may be in-person support during forensic exams or while making a police report. It can also be over the phone on our 24-hour crisis/support line. This volunteer position includes a 40-hour training provided by our agency. WAVE will also provide one hour monthly continuing education and ongoing support. There are also, on occasion, opportunities for further education off island.  Additional advocacy service opportunities may include court accompaniment, community education, and in-person advocacy.

Event Volunteers: Painting, cleaning, organizing, fundraising and event planning are all examples of ways individuals or groups can volunteer together. Whether you are a church group, scout troop, an interested community member or a group of friends, we can always find a way to put you to work!

Special Skill Instructor: Utilize a special skill (art, music, yoga, cooking, etc) to provide education and support to survivors. The Special Skill Events will be co-facilitated by a staff member of WAVE. We encourage creativity and fun with this position.

Agency Support Specialist: Answer the phone, organize office supplies, assist with social media efforts, and assist in creating resources for the agency. This volunteer position requires a 40-hour training provided by our agency and some portions of this position can be completed at home. This position is very flexible.

Prevention Mentor: Provide mentorship to youth utilizing evidence-based practices that help reduce power-based violence in our community (Girls on the Run, Let Me Run, etc)

Child Care Attendant: Provide childcare to allow parents to attend court proceedings/support groups. Volunteers would always have a co-sitter while they were watching children. WAVE would provide a two-hour abuse prevention training and first-aid/CPR training. WAVE will provide the childcare location.

Board Members:  fiduciaries who steer the organization towards a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies, as well as by making sure the nonprofit has adequate resources to advance its mission. Board members meet monthly and have ongoing communication through email
