PRESS RELEASE: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
As part of the national 2018 “Embrace Your Voice” Campaign Working Against Violence for Everyone calls on individuals to use their voice to make an impact when it comes to prevention.
This April, Working Against Violence for Everyone, W.A.V.E. will be engaging the community as part of its annual Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) campaign. This year’s theme, “Embrace Your Voice,” builds on the idea that how you talk about sexual violence matters. Individuals can embrace their voices to show their support for survivors, stand up to victim blaming, shut down rape jokes, correct harmful misconceptions, promote everyday consent, and practice healthy communications with children.
During Sexual Assault Awareness Month, W.A.V.E. will bring the theme of “Embrace Your Voice” to life by wearing teal and encouraging others to show off your ‘teal’. Gather your co-workers and take a selfie, decorate your office or window display with teal and tag Petersburgwave on social media, with the hashtags #TealPSG #SAAM Lets show Petersburg that we stand with survivors.
We all have a role in ending sexual violence in Petersburg and together we can make our community a safer place for everyone.
Beyond SAAM activities this April, W.A.V.E. leads a wide range of initiatives to prevent sexual assault. These include ongoing prevention programs like personal safety talks for grades K-5, Let Me Run, and Girls On The Run. Let Me Run inspires boys through the power of running to be courageous enough to be themselves, to build healthy relationships, and to live an active lifestyle. Girls On The Run, teaches life skills through dynamic, conversation-based lessons and running games. Both programs culminate with the students being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5k running event to be held April 28th in conjunction with the Circle of Life Run.
